Mama Sindi's Soup Kitchen
A hot meal every day for 60 to 80 children – what Mama Sindi started during the first Covid lockdown has since become an indispensable anchor in the community.

Sindiswa Manxeba – affectionately known to everyone as Mama Sindi – is an extraordinary person. Over 60 years old, full of energy, and driven by an unwavering determination to improve the lives of children in Imizamo Yethu.
How It Began
During the first Covid lockdown, Mama Sindi and her helpers began running a soup kitchen: a warm and nutritious midday meal every day for 60 to 80 children.
Tobias Keller met and came to appreciate Mama Sindi in spring 2023. Since then, the Keller Foundation has been supporting her work.
More Than Just a Soup Kitchen
Mama Sindi is an important voice in the community. As a spokesperson, she played a key role in making the “Siyakhula” project possible after lengthy negotiations with Help In Time – and today she also leads that kindergarten.
Her soup kitchen is therefore more than just a meal. It is an expression of community, care, and the belief that even small acts can create meaningful change.
