Power Child Campus Mfuleni
66 kindergartens were developed, caregivers trained and certified – around 3,000 children and their caregivers visited the campus each year.

Power Child Campus Trust was a non-profit non-governmental organisation founded in November 2008 in Mfuleni, in the Cape Flats (approximately 40 km east of Cape Town).
The Project
The wide-ranging projects of the Power Child Campus aimed to support children from early childhood development onwards, and to strengthen the township community in all social and communal aspects. Sport, dance, and theatre were used as tools to build skills and confidence in children, young people, and families.
The Keller Foundation was involved from January 2012 to December 2018. Our focus was on Early Childhood Development (ECD).
Early Childhood Development (ECD)
A strong foundation in early childhood is the cornerstone of a successful future. The Power Child Campus invited one or two kindergartens from Mfuleni to the grounds each day – under professional guidance, children learnt all the key skills for starting school through play.
In addition, all kindergartens received:
- Advice on legal and educational matters
- Information on hygiene, safety, and nutrition
- Intensive training and continuing education for caregivers
Regular on-site checks ensured that the knowledge shared was put into practice. Every child received a healthy lunch from the campus kitchen.
Results
During this period, 66 kindergartens in the Mfuleni township were developed and their caregivers trained and certified in theory and practice. Around 3,000 children and their caregivers visited the campus each year.
End of the Project
At the end of 2018, Power Child Germany announced its withdrawal from all projects – for personal reasons within the leadership. Continuing the entire project alone was not financially feasible for the Keller Foundation. We set out to find new projects to which we could extend the same trust.
